Margaret Allen papers, 1962-1993.

Papers of Margaret M. Allen, an English Professor at Western Illinois University. The collection documents the research she conducted for her paper, "Who Burned the Mormon Temple in Nauvoo?" Materials include a copy of the paper itself; photocopies of finding aids, broadsides, and letters from the Chicago Historical Society's Mormon Collection; and letters and genealogical materials concerning Joseph Agnew and his family. Agnew, a Shaker, was the primary suspect in the burning of the Mormon temple in Nauvoo.
